Residents of Lancaster have recently voiced strong opposition to proposed rezoning initiatives that they believe could significantly alter the rural character and stability of their communities. During a city council meeting on July 8, 2025, community members expressed concerns over plans that include the development of a five-story apartment complex and a strip mall in the White Fence Farms area.
Longtime resident, who has lived in White Fence Farms for 57 years, argued that the development constitutes “spot zoning,” asserting that such high-density construction is unnecessary in their area and could fundamentally alter their way of life. Another resident emphasized that the proposed rezoning contradicts the Lancaster general plan, which aims to prioritize urban development in designated areas while preserving rural residential zones.
Community members are urging city officials to reconsider the rezoning plans, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the area’s rural character and ensuring that any development aligns with the existing general plan. The city council has acknowledged these concerns and has stated that they will take them into consideration as they move forward with planning and development decisions.
